Nostalgia: The 'Ugly Betty' Child Star You Grew Up Watching Just Got Married — and a Hollywood Icon Officiated the Ceremony — Photos

The boy who grew up on our television screens is now a married man, and someone rather fabulous helped him say "I do."

A former child star married his longtime partner in an outdoor ceremony on Saturday, October 10, 2026, giving longtime viewers a wonderfully sentimental reason to revisit the series. Now 32, the actor looked every inch the grown-up groom, but wait until you see who stood beside him and who made their marriage official.

From After-School Life to a Place in Our Hearts

For anyone who remembers watching "Ugly Betty" during its original run, there is something ridiculously sweet about this wedding. A familiar young face from those evenings in front of the television has reached a milestone that makes the intervening years feel awfully short.

Wasn't he just a kid? Somehow, the calendar has raced ahead, and that little actor has a husband.

His television childhood came with pressures that viewers would never have guessed from the comfort of their couches. In a 2022 interview with Out, he recalled reporters questioning him about his sexuality when he was only 12 years old.

Behind the public attention was a teenager with a much more immediate concern: getting through school. He explained, "The last thing on my mind is addressing the public about my sexuality."

That is a lot to ask of someone still figuring out his own life. He later discussed working through those experiences in therapy and welcomed the greater respect being shown to young people in entertainment.

Fortunately, home offered a much warmer reception. After the series ended, his mother called while he was in high school and asked whether he was gay; when he said yes, she replied, "OK, cool. Yes. I was just wondering. What do you want for dinner tonight?"

Dinner remained dinner, and their son remained their son. His mother later explained that his parents had known since he was seven and that she had grown tired of waiting for him to tell them.

The actor recalled, "I feel very, very lucky and fortunate that I had such supportive parents, and that [they] also didn't make it a big deal."

That wonderfully ordinary family exchange belongs in the story of this very happy wedding. Long before the tuxedos and vows, he had parents who gave him room to be himself.

The Boy We Remember Had Some Growing Up to Do

His life also expanded well beyond the set. According to IMDb, after four seasons on "Ugly Betty," he stepped back from acting to study International Relations and Gender Studies at New York University's Gallatin School.

His studies included a semester-long internship with the Clinton Global Initiative. Quite a change from learning lines and filming television scenes, and a reminder that the young performer had ambitions away from the cameras, too.

Accepting the significance of his childhood role took longer. For a while, other people understood its importance to young LGBTQ+ viewers before he had fully worked out how he felt about it himself.

Eventually, he found real affection for that legacy, explaining, "Now I feel like rather than being confused and...distancing myself from it, I've really leaned into how grateful I am to have played that character and the fact that he's been a huge part of so many people's lives."

And here comes the name that will send "Ugly Betty" fans straight back to the Suarez household: Mark Indelicato, our Justin Suarez, has married David Watson.

Yes, JUSTIN! The young actor who played Hilda Suarez's son is now celebrating a love story of his own, and those wedding pictures make the passage from child star to husband feel wonderfully real.

Born on July 16, 1994, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mark played Justin across 85 episodes of "Ugly Betty" from 2006 to 2010. Ana Ortiz, who played his television mother, was also the co-star he confided in about his sexuality while they were filming the final season.

His memories of that cast would later help him recognize another workplace where he felt at home.

Their Wedding Came With a Very Familiar Voice

For the ceremony, Mark and David enlisted Jean Smart to officiate. Honestly, what a glorious person to have standing in front of you when you marry the man you love.

Their wedding appeared in social media posts shared by other "Hacks" stars Hannah Einbinder and Johnny Sibilly. In the footage, Jean addressed the groom with the kind of question that turns a celebration into a lifelong promise.

"Do you, Mark Anthony Indelicato, take David Joel Watson to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, in sickness, in health, for richer, for poorer, as long as you both shall live?"

After Mark responded, Jean delivered the announcement: "Then by the power vested in me by American Marriage Ministers, I now pronounce you husband and husband."

Husband and husband. For viewers who first knew Mark as a child, those words are enough to bring on a very affectionate little wobble.

And the wedding wardrobe deserves its own admiring pause. Mark wore a tailored black tuxedo jacket with satin peak lapels, adding a gold-toned floral brooch to his left chest.

His crisp white shirt had extended French cuffs, while the open neckline gave the formal outfit an easy elegance. A groom with a brooch and no tie? Beautifully done.

David complemented him in a black single-breasted tuxedo jacket with a round gold lapel pin. A striking white graphic patch on his right lower sleeve gave his outfit its own personality, alongside a wide-cuffed white shirt worn open at the collar.

Jean brought soft color to the occasion in a pale mint-and-champagne jacquard tunic jacket with pastel floral brocade. A Mandarin collar and frog-knot closures finished the jacket, which she paired with cream trousers.

The couple's coordinated outfits made a handsome pairing, while Jean looked perfectly suited to her very special assignment. This was a wedding party worth dressing up for.

The Friendship Behind Those Beautiful Vows

Jean's presence becomes even sweeter when you know what "Hacks" meant to Mark. In the HBO series, she played legendary comedian Deborah Vance, while he portrayed her assistant Damien from 2021 to 2026.

When Mark first read the pilot in 2020, he was considering leaving entertainment. Instead, he became so determined to join the show that he told his agent, "I don't care what you have to do. I need to be on this show."

He particularly appreciated its approach to LGBTQ+ characters, explaining, "That their queerness isn't drama, that it just is."

The job also brought friendships he cherished. Mark said, "We genuinely think that the others are some of the funniest, most interesting people we've ever met." That closeness brought back a feeling from his earlier career:

"The last time that I really felt like that was when we were making Ugly Betty."

His adult acting work also included playing Mickey in Gregg Araki's 2014 film "White Bird in a Blizzard," alongside Gabourey Sidibe and Shailene Woodley. He later portrayed Jorge Diaz Jr. in "With Love" from 2021 to 2023, continuing a career he had once questioned whether to pursue.

Through it all, Mark grew more comfortable embracing the work that had introduced him to so many people. As he put it, "I'm known for gay roles. I played an iconic gay character. Why would I want to distance myself from that?"

And the sweetest part is watching that familiar little face grow up, photo by photo. From his "Ugly Betty" years through adulthood, the gallery brings us all the way to a gorgeous finale: Mark beside David on their wedding day, looking every inch the handsome groom. Our Justin has a husband now, and honestly, who's feeling a little sentimental?
