Their baby will be the first child for the couple. For Jessica's parents, however, the arrival will mark another addition to a family that entered its grandparent era four years ago. Jessica is Bruce and Patti's only daughter. People reports that the couple also share sons Evan, 36, and Sam, 32.

Jessica has also established a career of her own in the equestrian world. She represented the United States at the Tokyo Olympics and won a silver medal in team jumping. The father of her first child knows that world well, too.
Nicola Philippaerts Comes From an Equestrian Dynasty
Nicola competes for Belgium and comes from a family with deep roots in show jumping. According to his Longines Global Champions Tour profile, the Belgian rider is the son of Ludo Philippaerts and the twin brother of fellow rider Olivier Philippaerts.

Ludo competed in four Olympics before ending his riding career in 2015. His sons have carried the family's name into another generation of the sport. In fact, CNN included the Philippaerts family among five leading equestrian dynasties in the world in 2018.
All four of Ludo's sons pursued riding despite also having opportunities to participate in sports including soccer, swimming, and tennis. Nicola and Olivier, the oldest twins, became particularly prominent.
Their profile extended beyond the competition arena. The twins, once nicknamed the "Justin Biebers of show jumping," signed a long-term agreement with H&M in 2015 and appeared as models in some of the company's campaigns. Nicola has continued competing at the sport's highest level.
He won the 2024 LGCT Grand Prix of Mexico City aboard H&M Luna van 't Ruytershof Z. The following year, he finished second in the LGCT Grand Prix of Valkenswaard with Katanga v/h Dingeshof. He has also recorded major results in Cascais and Chantilly.
Jessica and Nicola now have something entirely different ahead of them. And when they announced it publicly, a member of Jessica's own family quickly appeared in the comments.
A Family Member Reacts to Jessica's Pregnancy
Alex Springsteen, the wife of Jessica's younger brother Sam, responded directly beneath the pregnancy announcement. Her message made the family's reaction unmistakable.
"Congratulations!!❤️ We are so excited for you guys🥳❤️," Alex wrote. Alex and Sam already have a daughter, Lily Harper, meaning Jessica's baby will not be Bruce and Patti's first grandchild.

Patti announced Lily's arrival in July 2022. Lily made Bruce and Patti grandparents for the first time. Jessica and Nicola's child will now become their second grandchild.
The new baby bump photos also prompted followers to point out something else about Jessica: her resemblance to Patti. One person wrote, "Look just like your beautiful mother."

Another agreed, commenting, "Congrats..you look so much like your mom❤️." Others concentrated on the pregnancy itself. "So much to look forward to!! Wishing you a healthy pregnancy and a healthy little one!! You are glowing and look so happy!" one commenter wrote.
Another added, "You look beautiful. And so happy. Congratulations to you both." This happy milestone arrives at a deeply emotional moment for the entire family.

Good News After Tough Times
Patti has been part of the E Street Band since 1984 and married Bruce in 1991. According to Bruce Springsteen's official website, they raised three children together: Evan James, Jessica Rae, and Sam Ryan.
In 2024, Scialfa publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, in 2018. She addressed the diagnosis in "Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band," explaining that the illness affected her ability to perform regularly.

"This affects my immune system, so I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go," she said, according to Variety. Patti said she could still occasionally attend a concert and perform several songs but described that limited schedule as her new normal.
Then, in August 2026, Bruce delivered a significant update. During a video message for a Pan-Mass Challenge fundraiser benefiting Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where Patti received treatment, he announced that his wife was in remission.

"As you know, Patti's been living with her multiple myeloma for over eight years. But now, thankfully, she is in remission," he said, according to NME. Bruce thanked the doctors and medical team at Dana-Farber for their care and research.
Patti's diagnosis had already changed how often she appeared onstage with the E Street Band. She continued to make select appearances rather than performing regularly on tour. Now, two months after Bruce publicly shared the remission update, the family has another major development ahead.

Bruce Springsteen Previously Opened Up About Fatherhood
Long before becoming a grandfather, Bruce spoke publicly about how parenthood changed his life. During a 2021 conversation about fatherhood, he recalled a pregnancy scare involving Patti. She experienced bleeding, prompting the couple to visit a doctor.
Bruce described realizing during that experience that there was virtually nothing he would not have done to protect his wife and their unborn child. After Evan was born, fatherhood gave him a different understanding of himself.
"That is a gift you get from your children and from your wife," Bruce told People. "Your acknowledgment of a new self. And the realization of your manhood. It was huge."
He also described the sharp difference between his life as a rock star on tour and his responsibilities when he returned home.

"You are the chauffeur," he said. "You are the short order cook in the morning, you know. And the thing is you've got to be at the place in your life where ... you love it." Decades after Bruce and Patti raised their three children, the family is growing again.
