Sarah Jessica Parker Channels Carrie Bradshaw at NYC Ballet Fall Fashion Gala Date Night With Matthew Broderick in a Floral Gown and Ribbon-Adorned Braid — Photos
By Tetiana KalnaSarah Jessica Parker turned the New York City Ballet's Fall Fashion Gala into a memorable date night with Matthew Broderick. Her dramatic look, however, held a familiar detail that quickly drew attention.
The actress arrived at Lincoln Center in New York City on Thursday, October 1, with Broderick by her side. From her floral gown to an extraordinary hairstyle, Parker gave photographers plenty to capture.
The couple's appearance continued a tradition at an event that Parker has supported for years. Yet it was only on closer inspection that her latest fashion choices revealed their striking connection to Carrie Bradshaw.

A Date Night at the Ballet
Parker, 61, and Broderick, 64, attended the New York City Ballet 2026 Fall Fashion Gala at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. The annual gala brings ballet and fashion together while raising funds for the New York City Ballet.
For Parker and Broderick, it has also become a regular date-night destination. Parker initially posed alone for several photographs before Broderick joined her. The couple later held hands and smiled as photographers captured them together ahead of the evening's festivities.

Broderick kept his formalwear traditional. The "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" star wore a classic black tuxedo with a black bow tie, along with eyeglasses and a white floral boutonniere.
His understated outfit stood in contrast to Parker's elaborate look. The actress stepped onto the red carpet in a design filled with delicate details that became increasingly noticeable from head to toe.

Parker's Floral Look Comes Into Focus
Parker wore a long-sleeved, semi-sheer gown decorated with floral embroidery. Pink ribbon details were woven throughout the fairy-tale-inspired design, adding another dimension to the floral elements.
She completed the ensemble with silver jewelry and sparkling silver pointe shoes. But the dress was only part of the transformation. Parker's hair was styled into a massive fishtail braid, with the braid extending far down her back.

Pink ribbons were threaded through the hairstyle, visually tying it to the detailing on her gown. Together, the dress and braid created one of the night's most elaborate looks. The photographs also made the connection to one of Parker's most famous characters difficult to miss.
As Page Six noted in its coverage of the Carrie Bradshaw connection, elements of Parker's appearance recalled the fashion associated with the Manhattan columnist she played for years.

Carrie Bradshaw Echoes Return
Parker's gown recalled the voluminous tulle looks that became part of Carrie Bradshaw's distinctive wardrobe across "Sex and the City." The hairstyle carried an even more specific connection.
Its embellished braid was similar to a floral braid Carrie wore in a 2022 episode of the sequel series "And Just Like That." The parallel comes after Parker spent decades associated with the character.

She portrayed Carrie for six seasons of "Sex and the City," beginning in 1998, before returning for two feature films released in 2008 and 2010. Parker later stepped back into Carrie's shoes for "And Just Like That."
The HBO sequel ran for three seasons from 2021 to 2025. Her October 1 appearance therefore arrived after the end of the sequel series, but the familiar fashion references were still present on the New York red carpet.

And viewers looking at the gala footage found another fictional character in Parker's exceptionally long braid.
Viewers Spot Rapunzel in the Braid
The photos and footage prompted a range of reactions online, with several Facebook users focusing closely on Parker's hair. "Her dress and hair are giving Rapunzel vibes....." one person wrote on a Facebook reel.

"Is her hair extensions? [sic]" another asked. "The hairstyle is beautiful!! I wonder who styled her," a third commenter wrote. Other viewers focused on Parker's overall appearance rather than individual details. "She is always so elegant," one person commented.
Another enthusiastically praised both stars, writing, "They both look GREAT!!!! Sarah looks so beautiful. LOVE THEM BOTH." Broderick also became a subject of conversation after appearing alongside his wife.

"He seems more interested in chewing his gum," one viewer remarked in a separate Facebook reel. Another commenter wrote, "He looks anxious....uncomfortable." A third person observed, "He looks like he shrunk. A cute couple overall."
The comments added another layer to an appearance already drawing attention for Parker's dramatic styling. They also came one year after the couple attended the same gala with Parker wearing a completely different showpiece.

Last Year's Look Came With Wings
The New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala has provided Parker with a major fashion stage before. At the 2025 event, she arrived in an Iris van Herpen gown from the designer's fall 2025 Haute Couture "Sympoiesis" collection, according to WWD's coverage of her previous gala appearance.

The three-dimensional black-and-white gown featured a sculptural black lattice design against a cream backdrop. Its defining elements were enormous wing-like forms that extended to the floor.
The high-low skirt exposed Parker's footwear: Aquazzura Be Mine Sandal 105 peep-toe heels. The $1,360 shoes were made with black sheer chiffon mesh and grosgrain. Crystals framed the open toes and ankle straps, while two delicate straps wrapped around the sides of the feet.
The sandals also featured adjustable ankle buckles, lightly cushioned leather insoles, and 105mm stiletto heels. That appearance followed another gala look from the previous October. Parker had worn metallic silver Gianvito Rossi Portofino Sandals with a silver Oscar de la Renta embroidered ruffled tulle gown.
Broderick accompanied Parker to the 2025 gala as well, wearing a black tuxedo and black patent leather square-toe dress shoes. Parker's repeated appearances at the event go beyond red-carpet fashion.

Her Connection to the Ballet Runs Deeper
Parker is a longtime supporter and board member of the New York City Ballet. She conceived the annual Fall Fashion Gala more than a decade ago and has served as vice chair of the ballet's board of directors since 2012.
That history makes the event a recurring fixture on Parker's calendar and has repeatedly brought her and Broderick to Lincoln Center together. This year's floral gown and ribbon-filled braid, however, arrived at another notable point in Parker's career.

The actress has already been selected for one of the Golden Globes' major career honors. Parker was named the 2026 recipient of the Carol Burnett Award, recognizing her contributions to television both in front of and behind the camera.
Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne said Parker's work has made a lasting impact on popular culture. "Sarah Jessica Parker's career embodies the very spirit of the Carol Burnett Award," Hoehne said, according to Deadline's report on the honor.
