Nicole Kidman Spent Years Protecting Daughter Faith From Cameras — Now, Her 15-Year-Old Daughter Is Posing on the Red Carpet — Photo

For years, Nicole Kidman had one rule when it came to her daughters: protect their childhood from Hollywood's cameras. But now, her youngest daughter, Faith Margaret, is 15, and a new set of photographs has brought back a question the actress faced nearly a decade ago.

The pictures have already sparked reactions, with one person writing, “Keith's eyes” and another insisting, “She looks just like you.” Yet the conversation goes far beyond family resemblance, especially when Nicole's own words about keeping her children out of the spotlight are remembered.

In fact, the photograph everyone is talking about might never have existed at all, because Nicole once refused to let her daughters step into the world of cameras.

The One Thing Nicole Refused to Give Up

Nicole was already one of the biggest stars in the world when she spoke openly about protecting her children. She had spent decades attending premieres, accepting awards, and posing in designer gowns, but there was one part of her life she refused to put on display: her young daughters.

“I've never taken them anywhere publicly, because I'm protective of their identities and don't want them exposed early on,” she explained. Faith was just six years old at the time, growing up far from the usual Hollywood red-carpet routine.

Today, Nicole is raising Faith and her older sister, Sunday Rose, 18, following her separation from their father, Keith Urban, after nearly 20 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in January 2026, with Nicole receiving primary physical custody of both daughters.

But long before that change in family life, the actress had already established firm boundaries for her children. Even when work took her around the world, Nicole wanted her daughters to enjoy ordinary family life away from the demands of her career.

However, the actress admitted something else during that conversation. Her daughters were already asking to join her at special events, wanting to dress up and accompany their mother rather than always remaining at home while she attended another glamorous Hollywood occasion.

Nicole didn't want them to feel excluded from her world, either. The girls joined family celebrations and trips, but she drew a clear distinction between sharing experiences privately and being photographed by strangers at a public event.

At home in Nashville, the children experienced a very different side of their famous mother. Nicole enjoyed ordinary mornings in the kitchen, family meals, and the noise of children coming and going, even while her career regularly took her around the world.

The actress also tried to keep family life close to normal when work became demanding. She traveled with her daughters when possible, and even when filming meant being away, coming home to them remained one of her greatest priorities.

There Was Another Rule

Nicole's approach to parenting extended beyond avoiding red carpets. While other children were growing increasingly attached to social media, she had strict rules about technology for both Faith and her older sister.

The actress revealed just how firm those rules were, saying, “They don't have a phone and I don't allow them to have an Instagram. I try to keep some sort of boundaries.” Nicole acknowledged that enforcing those rules did not always make her popular with her children.

For Nicole, childhood was also about school, family routines, and interests that didn't need an audience. She wanted Faith to have the same freedom to grow up and discover things that other children enjoyed, even with a Hollywood star for a mother.

There was no personal Instagram account documenting every childhood moment for millions of strangers to follow. The girls had a mother the whole world recognized, but much of their daily life remained their own.

At the same time, Nicole could see that her daughters were developing their own interests. They were growing older, discovering fashion, and becoming increasingly curious about events their mother had attended for years without them.

Eventually, there would come a moment when Nicole would have to decide whether to let them join her. And that moment arrived during one of the most meaningful celebrations of her entire career.

She Did Something She'd Never Done Before

Nicole received the prestigious AFI Life Achievement Award in Hollywood, celebrating her extraordinary acting career. She had attended countless ceremonies over the years, but this time, her daughters were finally part of the public celebration.

Faith was 13, while Sunday Rose was 15, and both accompanied their parents to the event. As Nicole accepted the honor, she made a special acknowledgment that confirmed just how unusual the evening was for her family.

“My daughters have never been seen publicly anywhere on the red carpet, tonight was their first time, so here they are, Sunday and Faith,” Nicole told the audience. After years of attending major Hollywood ceremonies without them, she was introducing both girls during one of the biggest nights of her career.

The girls had heard their mother talk about her work for years, but attending an event of this size was an entirely different experience. Faith was now part of the celebration, meeting guests and sharing a milestone with the family.

Nicole had finally allowed her daughters to join her for a major Hollywood evening. And although their public appearances had once been rare, that night would not be the last time the family appeared together before the cameras.

Step Nicole Couldn’t Take for Her

After their red-carpet debut, both daughters gradually began joining Nicole at more public events. Sunday Rose also began developing a modeling career, but Nicole and Keith had established clear boundaries before allowing her to enter the industry.

As Sunday later explained, she wasn't allowed to begin fashion work until she turned 16, and school always had to come first.

Sunday admitted that she initially disliked those restrictions but eventually appreciated them. Meanwhile, Faith was enjoying ordinary teenage moments with her sister, including exchanging funny videos of cats, something Sunday revealed they loved doing together.

The sisters also joined Nicole at Chanel during Paris Fashion Week, appearing together in coordinated outfits. While Sunday was already pursuing modeling, Faith was beginning to discover the fashion world at her own pace, without following exactly the same path as her older sister.

But the girls' relationship with Nicole was never limited to glamorous outings. Behind the designer dresses and fashion shows, the actress still had one rather unusual request that her teenage daughters were expected to follow every single day.

A Confession Her Daughters Would Hate

Behind all those public appearances, Nicole was still very much a mother to two teenage girls. And even as her daughters became more independent, she had one surprisingly sweet rule that had nothing to do with red carpets or designer clothes.

During a HISTORYTalks appearance, Nicole admitted that the girls had to hug her for two minutes each day. She laughed that both daughters would be embarrassed to hear their mother telling a public audience about the family habit.

Their closeness was not limited to those daily embraces. Nicole described being invited into her daughters' bedrooms for conversations even when she had returned home exhausted, and she had learned that listening was often more welcome than offering advice.

She explained that she would ask whether her daughters wanted her opinion or simply needed someone to hear them. Around 90 percent of the time, they preferred no advice, leaving their mother to listen rather than immediately try to fix whatever was troubling them.

Nicole has also spoken affectionately about sitting on her daughters' beds to discuss private matters and said she could apologize when she got something wrong. “I sit on their beds and discuss the most intimate things; I get to be their guide,” she explained.

She also allowed the girls to disagree with her, rather than insisting that being their mother meant always having the last word. As Faith grew older, Nicole began giving her more freedom to make her own choices, while remaining close whenever her daughter needed her.

And Faith was becoming increasingly confident in the world of fashion, attending events and developing her own sense of style. But her next appearance would be different — this time, she was about to step into the spotlight on her own.

But Her Next Step Was Different

Faith attended Valentino's Antibiblioteca show during Paris Fashion Week, and this time, the 15-year-old appeared without Nicole. She was supporting Sunday, who was walking in the presentation, but Faith also had her own opportunity to pose for photographers.

The younger Kidman daughter wore a white mini dress with embroidered sleeves, black Valentino heels, and a delicate nameplate necklace. As photographs from the fashion event showed, Faith was already comfortable facing the cameras on her own.

The following day, Faith reunited with Nicole at Chanel's Spring/Summer 2027 show at the Grand Palais. The actress wore an oversized gray blazer styled as a short dress, while her daughter chose a Chanel cardigan, jeans, and black-and-white shoes.

The pair posed together, and Faith also greeted photographers on her own as she left the venue. But just when it appeared their Paris Fashion Week appearances had come to an end, Nicole had something else to share.

Then Nicole shared a series of new photographs from Paris, including a picture with Faith at The Peninsula Paris. The 15-year-old stood almost as tall as her mother, wearing a white crystal-embellished dress beside Nicole, who chose a tan blouse and loose taupe trousers.

The One Thing Nicole Couldn't Hold On to Forever

Nicole has never publicly named one specific moment that changed her approach to her daughters' privacy. But she had always wanted to protect them without excluding them from her life, and as Faith grew older, her own wishes began to matter more, too.

Nicole still asks for her two-minute hugs, listens to her daughters' problems, and makes time for those private conversations. At the same time, she respects their growing independence, giving them room to make more of their own choices about the lives they want to lead.

The latest photograph from Paris captures that new chapter in the simplest possible way. Faith is now 15, almost as tall as Nicole, and comfortable enough to pose for photographers on her own — while her mother is still right there beside her.

There was a time when Nicole walked onto red carpets without her daughters, determined to give them a childhood away from Hollywood's attention. Now, Faith is old enough to decide when she wants to step into that world herself, and Nicole is giving her the space to do it.
