Dove Turns Its Iconic Beauty Bar into a Limited-Edition Fragrance

One of beauty’s most recognizable scents has gone beyond the shower. Here’s how to get the one-time release, what makes the bottle special, and why you’ll have to move fast.

Dove’s familiar scent is extending from bar to bottle in a limited-edition offer this month.

For nearly 70 years, the scent of Dove’s Original Beauty Bar has been a part of many people’s shower routines, and now, fans of the product can also enjoy its scent all day long.

On October 22, Dove announced its latest offering, Dove Original Fragrance, a first of its kind for the classic soap manufacturer.

According to Dove, fans had been asking the brand for years to bottle its scent, and it finally heeded the call. “Dove Original Fragrance is the result of listening to our community,” said Dana Paolucci, head of engagement marketing for Dove U.S.

A familiar Scent, A Familiar Shape

To create the fragrance, Dove teamed up with Ann Gottlieb, a veteran fragrance developer who has worked with brands like Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs. Dove describes the result as a soft, clean scent for everyday wear.

“The most memorable fragrances make us feel something, and Dove Original Fragrance does exactly that,” Gottlieb said.

In keeping with the bar soap’s unique shape, the fragrance’s glass bottle also mimics the same curvature, completed by a Dove bird for its cap. The price of the fragrance, $19.57, is also a nod to the year Dove’s Beauty Bar was launched: 1957.

What Does It Smell Like?

Four Allure staffers tested the fragrance, and their reactions were mixed. Senior news editor James Manso said he was “floored” by how similar the scent is to the soap, though he prefers moodier scents and admitted it’s “probably not me.”

Content director Sophia Panych noted that while it’s an exact match in the bottle, it took a while for the creamy, soapy scent to settle on her skin, with hints of florals and even a touch of bubblegum that faded quickly. Senior staff writer Elizabeth Gulino described it as floral and powdery, bringing back childhood memories of her bathtub. She said she probably wouldn’t wear it on its own, but she’s curious to see how it pairs with other scents.

Meanwhile, associate visuals editor Giancarlos Kunhardt was the biggest fan. “Dove Beauty Bar in perfume form? I’m sold,” he said.

Dove Original Fragrance is a one-time, limited-edition release that opened for waitlist at dovefragrance.com on October 22, and will go on sale on October 27 at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET until stocks sell out.
